Music in the park

We have had a very busy summer across all areas of South Ribble. The Labour led Council continues to spearhead a number of initiatives in its quest to provide the best possible services for each and every resident. Times are really challenging with the cost of living crisis, and our attention has firmly turned to ensure you all receive the maximum possible support. There is more on the cost of living crisis on page 3. Council Leader Paul Foster, said “It has been such a busy time for us all as we attempt to fully recover from the pandemic, but also ensure we meet our obligations in respect to the Net Zero/Climate Change Agenda. You will have all noticed the wildflower meadows that graced many areas, as well as the rewilding to encourage biodiversity. We have also been championing and spearheading the recovery of our local community groups and sports facilities, awarding in excess of £500,000 in grants from savings we generated through the diligent management of the Council. Add to this the £2m state of the art 3G football pitches in Bamber Bridge that has just been completed, the wholesale redevelopment of Worden Hall and the £13m investment in your Leisure Centres, and you can begin to get a feel for the scale of our ambitious plans to make South Ribble the best place to live in Lancashire”. As well as the work associated with communities and local sports teams, we have also prioritised a ‘feel good factor’ for you all, with the continued support for Leyland Festival and the Party in the Park over the Queen’s Jubilee weekend. Council Leader Paul Foster said, “The Leyland Festival was the most successful ever, with over 25,000 residents attending. It was truly amazing. The next day, we held our Music in the Park. We promised to bring global superstars to South Ribble and we delivered, with Tony Hadley, Go West, T’Pau, Dr & The Medics and Heaven 17 all playing live. The whole place was bouncing and the feedback hugely positive, so we are going to do it again in 2023 – watch out for the announcement of the line up!”. We are acutely aware that there is still much more to do, and we are actively seeking additional community facilities in areas such as Lostock Hall, Moss Side and Farington. Watch this space for announcements!
