Penwortham Vernon Carus Sports Centre

The Labour Executive have approved the proposal for the ownership and transfer of more than 18 acres of land to South Ribble Borough Council bringing the Vernon’s site back into public ownership, protecting it for future generations! What a result for the community! The Executive also approved an initial £175,000 investment for the site.

Councillor for Broadfield Ward in Leyland and Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing Cllr Mick Titherington said: “As a council we want to get ‘more people, more active’ and the key to those aims is to providing access to the very best facilities.”

Councillor Matthew Tomlinson Cabinet Member for Finance and Assets, said: “We have an opportunity to expand the diversity of our leisure facilities in light of recent success at the Tokyo Olympic games; Factory Lane could include additional sports facilities such as a new BMX track along with upgrades to the boxing club and bowling green. Longer-term, a new state-of- the-art sports club pavilion and changing rooms may be considered.”

This is such great news for the people of Penwortham and South Ribble and we will have a full update on masterplan in our next issue.
