Jubilee Extravaganza to Celebrate Queens Jubilee

In 2022 there is a fantastic four-day Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

In South Ribble we want to make the most of it, with a live Orchestra and Music Festival being planned.

The Leader of South Ribble Borough Council (and Councillor for Bamber Bridge) Paul Foster said; ‘I am a loyal supporter of the Queen, having served in the British Army for 15 years and this weekend of celebrations will give us all a chance to let our hair down and relax after a really challenging 18 months responding to, and dealing with, the Covid Pandemic.

Worden Park will initially host the ‘South Ribble Garden Party’ for all the family, where you will be able to listen to the orchestra live on the stage, have a picnic on the lawns or let the kids loose on the fairground.

Entrance to the Garden Party will be free for residents of South Ribble and will be held on Thursday the 2nd June 2022. We are also looking to provide free transport from all areas of the Borough so you can all enjoy the day of celebration – for free!

The following day, Friday 3rd June will be the ‘South Ribble Music in the Park’ and we are really excited to announce an afternoon and evening of live 80’s bands, Pat Sharp, T’Pau and Tony Hadley and Heaven 17 have all been confirmed – this will with the Labour team leading the council be a annual event, which we can all enjoy. Full details on how to obtain tickets to follow.

Paul has been wholly dedicated to leading the Covid response here in South Ribble, ensuring a local test centre was established at West Pad- dock and working tirelessly to en sure all our community received prescriptions, food parcels and any other support we needed – which- was varied and complex. Additionally, we have provided a Holiday Hunger Scheme.

The Leader said; ‘The past 12 months have been truly devasting for so many, including me. My mum, aged just 68 and a day, died last April as the pandemic kicked in after a shockingly short illness. The very day she passed I then contracted Covid19 myself. I understand and personally feel the pain so many have unfortunately experienced, and continue to experi- ence, and this drives me to do absolutely everything I can to help. We will leave no stone unturned’.

Finally the Council Leader said; ‘We want our communities to come together to celebrate with the Queen and the Country the Platinum Jubilee, and we would love for all Play our residents to support this festival so we can see it grow year after year. We really are just getting started!
